Actress. Born August 9, 1978 in Beaumont, Puy-de-Dôme, France. An entertainer from a young age, Tautou made several TV movies before participating in a talent competition sponsored by France's Canal Plus in 1999. That year, she won Best Young Comedienne at the 9th Béziers Festival and had her first major screen role in Tonie Marshall's Venus Beauty Institute. The following year, the sweetly innocent performance earned Tautou the Prix Suzanne Bianchetti as France's most promising young film actress.

Next came the role that earned the actress international stardom, that of the eccentric title character in director Jean-Pierre Jeunet's award-winning 2001 French comedy Amélie. Three other French films followed, each spotlighting Tautou's sly and winning charm. Tautou was reintroduced to American audiences in Stephen Frears' dark thriller Dirty Pretty Things in 2003. In 2006, she starred opposite Tom Hanks in Ron Howard's big-budget screen adaptation of Dan Brown's bestselling novel The Da Vinci Code.
